It’s a new season..
It’s a new time.. time for Level 3 classes! Yay
There has been a lot of energy to prepare the grounds for this and the next seasons.
With the Forró community in mind, we created this new website and baked the Level 3 these past few months.
A key aspect of a community is having good communication channels. We (the board) have thought and discussed a lot about how and which channels do we need, and how to set them up. We have our Facebook page where we mostly only share the Forró events we organize. The Instagram profile has that dancing drop sometimes. However, those are mostly advertising channels. We have the gorgeous member’s newsletters curated by Milla, giving all the updates you need to know, which come a few times a year. Then we have the whatsapp Forró Abraço Nordestino member’s group, which is great for inviting each other to dance. This blog gives a new dimension to our communication, one where we can write our opinions and experiences with Forró. I’ll definitely write about my teaching, concepts, and ideas, making such ephemeral things to last a little longer.
I started giving Forró classes in Helsinki in 2017 applying the Forral methodology since the beginning. Before that, Annariikka and me spent an intensive year with Douglas and other Forral teachers, friends, and team to bring it for you here in Finland. Douglas created the Forral methodology with 5 different levels over the course of many years together with other Forró teachers and through his experience teaching hundreds of people in Belo Horizonte. One of the biggest contributions Forral gave to the overall Forró community was the addition and such attention to the music. Here in Finland, I had only been giving classes of Levels 1 and 2 until now. This Autumn the Level 3 classes start, and it brings a whole new dimension of possibilities to the Forró dancers (forrozeiros e forrozeiras).
Building on top of the foundations of Level 1, and expansion in possibilities given in Level 2, Level 3 brings a new layer of attention to detail in technique, and body awareness to create more beautiful and enjoyable dance experiences. While Level 1 is a lot about getting the first movements, being comfortable with the closeness and the rhythm, Level 2 introduces more about moving in the space and more demanding turns and figures. Level 3, however, will give you more understanding and possibilities for creating that feeling of flow and continuity in the dance. You will be encouraged to recognize more details in the music and refine your connection with your partner while exploring a wider range or movements.
The teaching methodology follows the clear structure and technique of Forral, giving you a clear path for developing your skills. I combine it with other materials and personal experiences, especially related to somatics and embodiment. When you accept the invitation, this combination becomes a powerful base for you to follow your interests, develop your skills, and enjoy the warm Forró atmosphere with each other.
I hope you enjoy reading the blog. Got an idea and want to write a post? Let us know.
Dance away.
ps. besides the regular classes in Helsinki, there will be classes in Turku and Karjalohja as well. Tell your friends, check the activities page, and become a member!
