About us

FANry

Forró Abraço Nordestino ry

Felipe has been dancing and studying, and working with Forró, the most popular Brazilian partner dance, since 2006. In 2017 Felipe moved to Finland and began giving classes with Annariikka. The very first Finnish Forró community was born, gathering more and more like-minded Forró enthusiasts together.

Forró Abraço Nordestino ry was founded in May 2018 by five members of our community: Felipe, Annariikka, Milla and Anna, with Jaana’s blessing. The intention was of providing a solid ground for the expanding Forró Community in Helsinki and in Finland. That year, the association’s first Forró Festival gathered over 150 local and international participants in Helsinki.

The aim of the association is to promote and organize cultural Brazilian activities, especially those around Forró dance and its rhythms. On top of the activities, or better yet, as a basis for the activities, FANry is keen on maintaining a sense of community among those who share the passion of Forró.

Building a community is a slow process, and we are all continuously learning about it and creating stronger bonds between us.

If you have ideas or got excited about helping out, let us know by email: info@forro.fi and become a member!

Board

The association has the Annual General Autumn meeting and the Annual Spring meeting. New board members are elected at the Annual Spring meeting. The new board members check all the official documents and discharge the previous year's board of their responsibilities.

A larger community.

While we operate locally organizing events and activities, there are larger organizations which support us and which in turn we also support by being a member.

European Forró Federation

In 2020, to fill the vacuum left because of not dancing, the European Forró community got together online and founded the European Forró Federation, of which we are a founding member.

Also in 2020 we became a member of the national pair dance association in Finland. Among other benefits, they make it easier for us to pay the due copyright fees for playing music.
