Welcome to our weekly classes starting on September 4th! For this year, we have a special schedule with 4 unique sets of forró content!

Every Sunday classes are at 13.30-16.30 (3-hour class) and social dance at 16.30-17.30 at Eskus - Esitystaiteen keskus ry (Kaasutehtaankatu 1, 00540 Helsinki).

CLASSES EXPLANATION

*Forró Roots style*

Teachers: Johanna Alatalo and Suvi Lukka

The four workshops will introduce and explore some key concepts and movements of the forró Roots style! Each workshop will build upon the previous one, so you will make the most out of them by attending them all.

These workshops are suitable for those who already know the basics of forró or have a good base in another social dance.

*Forró improvements workshops*

Teacher: Lucas Condeixa

Have you wondered how to improve your forró dance with the content you have been taught so far? This set of workshops will engage with techniques that can improve our dance level covering contents across multiple levels of the Forral methodology.

The workshops will be self-sufficient, meaning each one will cover different contents of forró dance and be open to all levels (even though some contents will be easier to associate if you have a minimum training on topics such as pivoting, multiple turns, fluidity, and forró rhythms).

Workshops content:
1) Keeping the pace: here, we cover the multiple ways of dancing forró regarding the multiple rhythms. We discuss the tempos multiplication and subdivision and how to use musical effects to express a nice figure you want to put into practice.
2) Forró beyond the mirror: let's dance with our reflex! We will see how basic figures work on the dark side, how to make inverted movements (when the leader implements the follower's steps), and 'bate-e-volta' (forward-backward) movements.
3) Turning the turns: I will show how we can improve our turns and which type of exercises make our turns more consistent. We will see which figures involve turn techniques in forró.
4) General sequences: in this workshop, we'll discuss how to keep fluidity between figures and make longer routines.

*First steps into forró*

Teacher: Anna Fornasiero

This course is for you if you are curious about forró dance and don't know where to start or want to get solid on your moves.

We will learn all the basic steps of forró that you need to survive on the dance floor and more. We will familiarize ourselves with the music and musicality and explore all the basic tools useful for enjoying forró while you dance.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners and for anyone who wants to improve and refresh the basics while discovering more details about the moves.

*Forró dance training*

Teachers: Felipe Morato and Annariikka Kyllönen

In these classes, you'll practice and develop a diverse set of skills that are useful for dancing Forró or other dances. The classes have a main topic addressed through a dynamic and experiential approach.

Possible topics to be covered are body skills and coordination, balance, communication and connection, leading and following skills, energy (bigger / smaller movements), and musical perception.

We'll try to keep people from different levels engaged in these open-level classes as we tailor the pace to the participants who are present.
