ABOUT THE TEACHERS:
Carol Andrade:
Carol Andrade is a forró teacher and researcher of body expression. She started studying dance in her childhood when she took ballet classes. In 2016, she discovered her passion for forró and started going out every week to dance at the forró’s parties that were happening in the city.
In 2017, she became a monitor at a dance academy called Lá Na Dança, where she learned various types of ballroom dancing. During that period, she gave her first workshop, when she discovered her real interest in teaching dance classes.
In 2018, Carol and Wesley launched classes at the dance academy and at the University of Brasília (UnB), which contributed to their personal and professional growth as a dancer and performers. In 2019, she taught workshops in Brasília, São Paulo, and Bahia.
Currently, Carol and Wesley teach forró classes at the University of Brasilia, as they believe that dance classes at the university can bring several benefits to students, such as socialization and the perception of themselves and others.
They are also developing online classes in the Lá Vai Forró project, which teaches free forró dance classes through videos posted on their Youtube and Instagram channels, as they believe that dance classes should reach everyone who is interested.
“It is because I truly believe in the benefits that forró has brought me that I continue studying and sharing so that more people have access to this transformation.”
Wesley Andrade:
Wesley Andrade works as a dance teacher, specializing in forró universitário/roots. He started dancing in 2013 at the University of Brasília (UnB), where he learned forró and fell in love with the style.
In 2015, he became a monitor at the Lá na Dança academy, he went through several experiences with the most varied rhythms of dancing styles. In 2016, he joined Forró Project at the University of Brasilia, where he started his experience as a forró teacher.
He has joined the teacher’s team at the Workshop de Forró na Capital (WFC), in Brasília and in different parts of Brazil.
He is the creator of the YouTube channel Lá vai Forró, where he shares his knowledge. His aim is to introduce and teach the structural characteristics of the dance steps and all of the cultural movements that forró is about.
“I'm passionate about learning and I'm always looking to find new ideas to teach. I like to mix technique and feeling within the classes, and my goal is to spread the culture of forró and change people's lives through dance.”
