About us
Forró Abraço Nordestino ry (FANry) is a community-powered, non-profit association bringing Brazilian warmth, rhythm, and togetherness to Finland since 2018. We exist for the love of Forró—and for the people who make the dance come alive.
Our mission is to promote and organize Brazilian cultural activities, with a focus on Forró dance. We host classes, socials, workshops, and festivals, but for us, Forró is never just about dancing. It’s about connection, shared joy, laughter between songs, and the feeling of being welcome, whether it’s your very first step or your thousandth turn.
How It All Started
Forró Abraço Nordestino ry was founded in May 2018 by five members of our community: Felipe, Annariikka, Milla, and Anna, with Jaana’s blessing. As the Forró scene in Helsinki—and across Finland—continued to grow, it became clear that the community needed a solid base to support its development, creativity, and sustainability.
That same year, FANry took a big step by organizing its first Forró Festival in Helsinki. Over 150 local and international participants came together to dance, connect, and celebrate—a moment that showed just how strong and alive the Forró community in Finland had become.
